International Hegel Congress - I

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Hegel’s Phänomenologie des Geistes October 6-7 2007
Caddebostan Cultural Center – Istanbul

The Hegel Congress is organized by The Philosophical Association, Ankara, and Idea Publishing House, Istanbul, in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the publication of Hegel’s Phänomenologie des Geistes. This event is free and open to anyone interested.

Phänomenologie des Geistes is a philosophical work which is still unequalled in its analysis of the human situation literally in its entirety. In this work, Hegel’s discovery of the real meaning of our culture, civilization, history is depicted in the successive forms of consciousness which manifest themselves as a unique process of development culminating in the final recognition of the fact that human mind is competent to know what really happens in our existence. Hegel uses this work as a preparatory introduction for his Encyclopedic presentation of the sciences, which are not prefigured by an external understanding but developed by the impetus of the Spirit itself forever towards the full actualization of its cognitive, moral and aesthetic potentialities.
